Scw camera support

Scw camera support DEFAULT

Can I use “x” brand camera or NVR with an SCW camera or NVR?

At SCW we pride ourselves on having the easiest setup in the industry. When you combine our cameras and NVRs the process is completely plug and play, no complicated networking required.

Third party cameras make the setup significantly more complicated due to the fact that ONVIF does not support direct connections like “SCWEasyConnect”. This requires your third party camera to be plugged into an external PoE switch, assigning an IP, and configuring ONVIF settings on the camera. This often requires manufacturer specific software or instructions that SCW technicians are unable to provide and support.

SCW is unable to support third party cameras beyond showing you where to enter the information to connect the camera.

You are responsible for finding an open IP Address on your Network, assigning the IP to the camera, and finding out what protocol and ports it may use, as well as any steps to activate ONVIF on the camera.

Under no circumstances will SCW install or support third party software to configure third party cameras. SCW technicians are also unable to contact other manufacturers for information on the third party camera.

Third Party Checklist - Steps for Support

The following checklist is provided - these steps must be completed before an SCW technician can provide support.

The third party camera(s) must be on a separate PoE switch connected to your network/router (ONVIF does not support direct connection)

The third party camera has been assigned an IP matching your local network

The third party camera is at least ONVIF 2.0 Profile S compatible and ONVIF compliance mode is turned on (if applicable)

The port information is gathered - including web port, RTSP port, management and any other ports the camera may use.

Please contact the camera’s manufacturer for assistance with any of these steps and information required.

Note: Even after this setup certain features such as motion detection, motion recording, time sync, audio, PTZ control etc may not be supported and relies entirely on ONVIF version of the camera and the implementation by the manufacturer.

Please see our Third Party Support Policy for more info.

    Ratings and Reviews

    Only for SCW customers

Unless I’m mistaken, this app is only for SCW customers. I have the Guardian Pro cameras. I wish the NVR would send push notifications for motion detection. In that way, you would at least know when to open the app and view the feed, other than when you are simply curious.

    Works perfect every time

I have a networker pro nvr ( 16 channel ) which I purchased from SCW a few years back. I have several models / brands of different POE cameras, a few with adjustable focal and a cpl ptz. All work great with this app and nvr. ONVIF and off brand models have some limitations but still work fine.
I do not power my cams with the nvr - although I could. I have a couple three or four poe switches where needed.
The nvr and THIS app work without losing a beat. Ever.
I can zoom in/out, I can pan/tilt. I can review with ease and I can clip and save whilst I review without an issue.
I can HEAR the audio clearly in my recording ( using cameras with audio )
Not sure why anyone would rate this app with less than 5

    Great job !

    There are better apps

This is a version of Guardian which I like better. Both IVMS-4500 and Guardian have push notifications- Security Camera Warehouse insists push notifications are not reliable. Maybe not 100%. But they work for me so I use those two apps with SCW NVR as my primary app for this Instead of this app. I get push notifications nearly 100% of the time instantly all across the U.S. - Email and or text msg from NVR is slower.

Reply to SCW Response. It is one thing to make a recommendation but it is wrong headed to try to make me use your recommendation.. that is, make the choice for me. I use push notifications, Email and use email to text me the notifications. Push notifications are always faster. I am disappointed that SCW has removed push notifications in this app as I said I get them instantly almost 100% of the time and time is critical. I use the inputs on the NVR to notify me of high water, power outages and several other non video critical time sensitive information. SCW should not be trying to force me to use the system I bought in a way they want. Customer is King. Put push notifications back in and let the people paying you use them how they want. It it is not your decision to make. So please put the option for push notifications back in the application.

SCW also erroneously insist that only SCW POE cameras are plug and play. Hikvision cameras are just as readily recognized when plugging directly in to the SCW rebranded Hikvision NVR
Thank you very much. I do believe SCW is the best place to purchase a video surveillance system and I would buy from them again AND HEARTILY RECOMMEND anyone wanting video surveillance to purchase from them.

Push notifications have no received receipt, which means that if you are out of service it thinks that it notified your phone when it hasn't. We don't recommend using them. Email is reliable (even when you are out of reception) and has the added benefit of a photo backup that is stored on your email client should your NVR be stolen.

Networking Guide For Our Security Camera Systems

Step 2, Option A: Opening Ports on your Router

Please Note: viewing your SCW systems remotely requires an addressable IP address, which means that you usually need a wired Cable or DSL connection. Satellite or Cellular data packages may not work because they often lack an addressable IP.

Next, you need to open up the ports on your router so that you can look at your footage over the internet.

Obviously, we didn't make or sell you your router (it usually comes from your Internet Service Provider), but if you need help with this step, make sure you are on location, with a computer, and give us a call. We're happy to help.

Step 2, Option B: Setting up a VPN

If you would rather not open ports, you can set up a VPN to remote in as well. SCW can help you tweak your settings to work with your VPN, but can't choose one for you.

    If you can't open ports

If you can't open ports, you won't be able to tell the camera system to send you to live video, because that requires the camera system to receive an instruction sent by you. Your NVR will still be able to send alerts, however. You will still be able to use our Snapshot email feature, which sends out emails with thumbnails, and our Snapshot FTP feature, which uploads the video to an FTP server on analytics event or motion.

SCW How To: Troubleshoot an Offline Camera

Connecting to your Scw IP camera*

Try the following connection options in iSpy or Agent to connect to your Scw IP camera. If an FFMPEG option is available we recommend you try that first as it will often be faster and include audio support. You can also try the VLC plugin if the FFMPEG option isn't working.

The settings for Scw cameras are built right into our free surveillance software - click "Add" then "IP camera with wizard" to automatically setup your Scw cameras. Remember to also try connecting via ONVIF as Scw cameras may support ONVIF connections as well.

Start typing in the "Make" box to find your camera. If your camera is not listed then click "Get Latest List" in settings or when on the add camera wizard. If you need to modify the URL then add or edit the Scw camera and you can modify the connection type and URL in the video source dialog (button is top of the first tab).
